Veneers

What are veneers?

Veneers are oral prosthetics used to improve the strength, size, and overall appearance of your teeth. These custom-tailored shells of porcelain or ceramic are bonded to the front of your natural teeth. Veneers can correct various imperfections, including discolored teeth, smaller-than-average teeth, and teeth with spaces between them.

While it's possible to get only one or two veneers, most people get six or eight to restore symmetry and balance to their smiles.

What is the process for getting veneers?

Getting veneers typically takes two appointments spaced a few weeks apart.

First, the Nashville Smile Creations team conducts an oral exam and takes oral X-rays. They then administer a local anesthetic and prepare your teeth to receive the veneers by shaving off a thin layer of enamel — about one millimeter thick. Next, your provider takes impressions of your teeth and sends them to a laboratory that makes your veneers.

Several weeks later, you return to Nashville Smile Creations. Your provider lines up your veneers with your teeth and bonds them in place using dental cement.

How do I take care of my veneers?

You care for your veneers just like you would your natural teeth by brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting the Nashville Smile Creations office every six months for routine preventive care like an oral exam and cleaning.

Avoid bad habits, too. For example, Nail-biting, opening objects with your teeth, and chewing on ice cubes can chip, crack, or otherwise damage your crowns and veneers.
